William Donald
Mattingly
Oct 2, 1955 — Sep 2, 2021
Lebanon
William Donald Mattingly, the man with the jokes, all the antics, the life of the party, peacefully transitioned to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 2, 2021, with family at his side. Born October 02, 1955 in Lebanon; Donald was blessed to have 65 years to live a full life with his family and friends who loved him dearly. He was well known for his bigger than life personality, being a jokester, ongoing antics, and jovial spirit. Donald was born and raised in Lebanon, KY by his parents Thomas Otha and Emma Mattingly along with his siblings, Frances, Thomas, Barbara, Michael, and Bradley. His siblings have fond memories of their time growing up together and the fun Donald brought to their childhood. Later in life he came to be affectionately known as Uncle Don Don by his niece and nephews Michael, Felicia, and Jalen who deemed him "THE FUN CRAZY UNCLE". Donald was the kind of Uncle that made sure his niece and nephew had whatever they wanted when they wanted it...especially his coin jar! Gratefully, his great nieces and nephews had the opportunity to know, enjoy, and love him as well. Donald's lifetime profession as a custodian at various medical facilities in Lebanon and Georgia brought him much pride and joy in knowing that he contributed to the greater good. One of Donald's life's pleasures was hanging out on the fishing bank whenever he could. While Donald lived on St. Simon's Island, Georgia with his brother, Thomas, he loved taking every chance he could to deep sea fish. Donald loved life! He wanted to enjoy it to the fullest. He also knew that each of us have a higher purpose in life willed to us by God. He knew that once our purpose was fulfilled our time on earth would expire and we would have the great pleasure and honor of joining our Savior. He always said, "we all have to do it". The family finds much solace in knowing that Donald had a grand purpose, and it was faithfully fulfilled. There is much comfort in knowing that Donald is now with our Savior and there was a grand reunion that took place with his siblings, parents, and other family members who preceded him in death on the day he transitioned.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Francis Louise Spearman; brother, Thomas Mattingly, Jr.
Survivors include his two brothers, Michael Mattingly and Bradley Mattingly; sister, Barbara Spalding; two nephews, Jalen Mattingly and Michael Spalding; niece, Felicia Carter.
