Shirley Ann Willett, aged 81, entered into eternal peace Thursday October 15, 2015 in Lexington, Kentucky. Shirley was born in St. Mary's, Kentucky on January 25, 1934, to the late John Amos Mattingly and Catherine Leake Mattingly. Shirley graduated from St. Charles, attended St. Charles Church and later St. Augustine Church in Lebanon, Kentucky.
The oldest of eleven children, Shirley was raised in a close, devoted Catholic family. She was predeceased by brother, Michael Dempsey Mattingly and sister, Martha Alice Burress. She is survived by brothers, John R. Mattingly, Dave Mattingly and Richard Mattingly, and sisters, Mary Abell, Carol Boggs, Cabrini Whatley, Generose Mitchell and Angela Scharfenberger. Shirley is also survived by devoted husband Charles Ray Willett, daughter Debra Hupman (Steve) and Fran Elder (David). She is lovingly remembered by her grandchildren Ashton, Benton and Merrick Hupman, to whom she was totally dedicated.
Shirley adored time spent with family and was involved in every aspect of her children and grandchildren's lives. Many loving nieces and nephews have great memories of summers spent at Aunt Shirley's. She could often be found driving carloads of kids to ballgames, the movies, and to the pool or lake. Friends and family will also remember "Shirl's garden", designed with pathways through her yard and filled with her favorite flowers. Shirley shared her love for gardening with others and many friends' gardens were started with cutting from her beautiful collection.
Visitation for Mrs. Willett will be Sunday October 18 from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Bosley Funeral Home, Lebanon Kentucky. A prayer service will be held at 7:00 P.M. Sunday at Bosley Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, October 19 at 11:00 A.M. at the St. Augustine Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Augustine grade school and the Rosary Garden at St. Augustine.
