Mary Rita Higdon, age 97, passed away Saturday, October 10, 2026. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Joseph “Billy” Higdon. Survivors include her children, Freddie Higdon (Nancy) of Lebanon; Vickie McGuigan (Pat) of Nashville, TN; Marlene Ungarean (Bob) of Larue, TX; Joyce Matchett (Roger) of Gallatin, TN; nine grandchildren, and twenty-two great grandchildren.

Rita was a graduate of Saint Catherine College. She received the Business Person of the Year award from the Lebanon/ Marion County Chamber of Commerce in 1986 with her husband Billy. She was a member of the St. Augustine Parish Finance Committee. She was active in the Thoreau Club, holding several Official positions. She was a member of the Women’s Club and an avid Bridge player.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, October 14, 2026 at St. Augustine Catholic Church, officiated by Father Terry Bradshaw and Father Hillary Chumo. Interment to follow in the church cemetery.

Visiaition will be held from 5:00-8:00 P.M. Tuesday, October 13, 2026 at Bosley Funeral Home with a prayer service that will be held at 7:00 P.M., officiated by Father Hillary Chumo.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the St. Augustine School Fund, 236 South Spalding Avenue, Lebanon, KY 40033.

The family would like to thank all the loving, precious people that allowed her to stay in her home.

She will be lovingly missed by her family and friends.
