GRAVEL SWITCH

Obituary

Mrs. Ethel Naomi Willard Orberson Hourigan, age 97, of Gravel Switch, KY, formerly of Lebanon, passed away Friday, November 12, 2021 at the Village of Lebanon.

She was the oldest child born to the late Charles Roy Burton and Ara Cooley Willard on November 19, 1923 in Marion County, KY.

She worked as a clerk at J.J. Newberry Company in Lebanon, KY. for over 10 years. She enjoyed camping/traveling with her husband, son, and grandchildren to Beechbend Park, Bowling Green, KY, Orlando, FL, Myrtle Beach, S.C, and other southeast destinations. She enjoyed hosting annual Christmas Day and Easter Sunday celebrations at her home for all of her family, where she would prepare a very large meal. She spent countless hours babysitting and helping raise her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed playing Bunco or Rook, working jigsaw puzzles, discussing family genealogy and history. At the time of her death, she was the oldest living member of Grace Baptist Church. She was a wife, mother, grandma, sissy, old mother, aunt, and caretaker to countless family and friends over the years. At the age of 90, she moved in with daughter, Marilyn, and son-in-law, Norman, in Gravel Switch, KY. She enjoyed riding the ATV on the farms, sitting on the porch drinking coffee and smoking, visiting with family and neighbors, watching TV, and birdwatching. Marilyn Jean was an amazing caretaker to her mother during the last years and months of her life. Her great-granddaughter, Jennifer Cooley, was her caretaker in the final hours. The family is grateful to both for their dedication to her.

Mrs. Hourigan was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Powars Hourigan; son, Charles Howard Orberson; son-in-law, Norman B. Elliott; grandsons, Michael B. Elliott and Jason Orberson; sister, Martha Lorene Wren; four brothers, Oscar Lee, Hughie Thornton, William Thomas and Oatley Darrell Willard.
